Aaron G. Green designed the Anderson Residence in 1959 for Judge and Jeannie Anderson, on nearly three and a half acres above the Pacific at Abalone Cove. Green trained under Frank Lloyd Wright and served as his West Coast representative, and the house carries that lineage in redwood, stone and glass.

Its two wings meet at an angle around a courtyard and a long pool, with steep gabled roofs lifting toward the view. The sunken living room keeps its original built-in seating and the furniture Green designed for it, set around a massive stone fireplace, and mitered glass corners open the rooms to the ocean.

Three bedrooms and two baths fill 2,175 square feet. In 2003 Eric Lloyd Wright, Frank Lloyd Wright's grandson, expanded the primary bath and updated the pool and spa, keeping to Green's design.

Outside, terraces and planters step toward the bluff, with a Japanese garden off one wing and several hundred feet of ocean frontage below. Maynard L. Parker photographed the house when it was new, and those images are now held at the Huntington.
