Steve Giannetti designed this house on just over two-thirds of an acre in Brentwood, set behind gates on a quiet street and backing onto a canyon. It is built from the materials his work is known for: steel windows, reclaimed wide-board floors, handmade tile and beams, oak doors, plaster walls and English brass hardware.

Everything turns around the central living room, which rises 19 feet under barn wood beams. It has a wood-burning fireplace, built-in bookcases with a loft above, and a wall of steel-framed windows that opens onto a trellised patio, an outdoor fireplace and fountain, the lawn, and an infinity pool and spa that run out to the canyon's edge.

Around it sit an English farmhouse kitchen with a large French range and a separate scullery, a two-room family and media room with a drop-down screen, an office or guest room, and a gym, each opening to the gardens.

There are five bedrooms and five and a half baths. The primary suite has its own office, a fully tiled bath filled with daylight, and a large veranda over the lawn and the canyon.
